14th Annual Conference on the Adirondacks
May 22 - 24, 2007
Sustainability, Climate Change and Protected Areas
Setting a Practical Research Agenda for the North Country
Call for Papers
The 14th Annual Conference on the Adirondacks will be held at the Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks (the Wild Center) in Tupper Lake, NY on May 22, 23 & 24, 2007.
The focus of the 2007 conference is on the effects of climate change on sustainability in protected areas. The ARC has invited speakers of national, regional, and local expertise to present the latest scientific information on the topic. In addition, a broad spectrum of invited speakers and panel participants will discuss their latest work in this subject area, as well as, practical approaches to dealing with the problem in the Adirondacks.
Panel discussions focusing on the important links between science with the needs of decision makers in non-governmental and governmental agencies are also part of the conference program. This dialogue is all inclusive and representative of a broad cross section of expertise and responsibility in the Adirondacks, and builds on the RCAPS Workshop of November 2006. There will also be opportunity to hear about similar initiatives in other parts of the country.
The conference is a forum for researchers to present current information on natural, social, economic and recreational resources, as well as, an opportunity to bring people with diverse backgrounds together in collaborative efforts.
