the Adirondack Research Consortium
In 1994 a small group of academic researchers and leaders of Adirondack-focused nonprofit organizations recognized the need for research-based knowledge to inform and guide policies, planning, and management of the Adirondack Park’s public and private lands. The Adirondack Research Consortium (ARC) was set up in an informal way to fill this need, its goal
To encourage, facilitate, and make more available research-based knowledge and scholarship that advances the quality and vitality of the Adirondack Park and related environs.
The Consortium has focused on stimulating research and acting as a knowledge-based forum and communicator among disciplines and diverse interests, primarily through its annual research conferences and the Adirondack Journal of Environmental Studies.
Annual Research Conferences, beginning in 1994, have served as an interdisciplinary, regional network providing an opportunity to present and discuss research papers and reports. Audiences number more than 100, and range from students and teachers to researchers with national reputations to local and regional policy makers.
The Adirondack Journal of Environmental Studies (AJES) has been published twice-yearly since 1994 and presents peer-reviewed scholarly articles and commentaries, feature and interpretive articles, and policy perspectives relevant to the Adirondacks, the Northern Forest, and related environs. It aims to foster dialogue about relevant issues, bridge gaps among academic disciplines and researchers and practitioners, and encourage sustainable communities both human and wild.
